What are the steps needed to transform facilities to
homes where every resident is engaged in appropriate
programs? Programs that allow residents to continue
to use their strengths and to live another phase of
life in the comfort of knowing they will never be abandoned
no matter the physical or memory impairment?
The Avila Institute of Gerontology, Inc. now offers
customized training and services to enable facilities
to be flexible enough to meet the individual needs of
their residents who are memory impaired. Inherent in
the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm Philosophy
is the desire to meet all the needs of the elderly population
it is serving. Each individual must be cared for within
the context of his / her dementia, and programs must
be individualized to promote resident well-being and
enhance functional capabilities.
We are currently offering on-site Training Programs
to educate facility staff and/or family members of people
who are memory impaired. We can also help you design
programs that answer the needs of each person within
the context of the type of Memory Impairment they are
experiencing. We teach the importance of assessing each
person for appropriate programs that continue to enhance
their lives every step of their journey.
Our programs include:
• Key Components of Implementing Quality Dementia Care
• On-Site Core Curriculum Training
• Implementing a Memory Impairment Program
• Train the Trainer
• Assessment Services
We also customize workshops and seminars to focus on
topics that meet the
specific needs of your facility. Want to see what previous

Testimonies
The Avila Institute’s Dementia Training energized
our caregivers and gave them new ideas relating to care
of residents with dementia. One of our Nursing Assistants
has tried some of the ideas gained from the recent seminar
with one of our residents in particular. the resident
has become more confident with ambulation and the Nursing
Assistant feels more successful as a caregiver. Thank
you, Sister Peter and Carol Stathis for your great work!
